At least nine Palestinians were killed and dozens of others wounded in an Israeli bombing on the gate of a school housing displaced people in Gaza City, said Palestinian security and medical sources on Wednesday.

Israeli aircraft bombed with at least one missile the gate of a school in the al-Rimal neighborhood, west of Gaza City, which houses dozens of displaced families, Palestinian security sources told Xinhua.

Also on Wednesday, the Gaza-based health authorities called on the international community to save the health system, providing support and purchasing generators necessary to ensure the functioning of hospitals.

In a press statement, the health authorities said that it has been relying on diesel generators for about nine months to supply hospitals with the necessary electrical energy.

The ministry stated that some generators have been destroyed and directly bombed by the Israeli army.

Israel launched a large-scale offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip to retaliate against a Hamas rampage through the southern Israeli border on Oct. 7, 2023, during which about 1,200 people were killed and around 250 were taken hostage.

During the past 24 hours, the Israeli military killed 81 people and wounded 198 others, bringing the total death toll to 38,794 and injuries to 89,364 since the Palestinian-Israeli conflict broke out in early October 2023, Gaza-based health authorities said in a statement on Wednesday.
