Police in Japan have arrested Japanese football player Kaishu Sano on suspicion of committing nonconsensual sexual intercourse, multiple local media outlets reported on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old midfielder on Japan's national team was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in her 30s at a Tokyo hotel shortly after 4 a.m. local time on Sunday, according to Metropolitan Police Department officials.
Sano was arrested together with two acquaintances in their 20s, but the police did not disclose whether the trio admitted the allegations against them.
The three dined with the woman before they entered the hotel, the officials said. The woman called the police immediately after the incident, and the suspects who were on the street near the hotel were taken into police custody, Jiji Press reported.
Sano was selected member of Japan's national team for the first time and played during this year's AFC Asian Cup.
