The Hong Kong SAR government plans to reclaim the funds it donated to rebuild an earthquake-devastated school in Sichuan Province, after local authorities pulled down the school for a massive real estate project, Shanghai Daily reported.

The Hong Kong government and Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers donated HK$2 million each to Mianyang, a quake-hit city in the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. The federation said it has no plan to reclaim its donation.

But the Zijing Ethnic Minorities Middle School, which was rebuilt in 2010 for minority students from the Aba Prefecture, has been demolished to make room for a large-scale commercial housing project by a private developer.

Earlier media reports claimed that Dalian Wanda Commercial Properties Co. Ltd. has already started work on the project.

The People's Daily Online reported the city's intention was to rebuild the school with better facilities to an education park which will open in August next year.

據《上海日報》報道，香港特別行政區政府計劃收回捐贈給四川地震災區、用于重建學校的款項，原因是當地政府為大型房地產項目讓位，已將該校拆除。

香港特區政府、香港教育工作者聯會曾分別向2008年四川地震中受災的綿陽市捐贈200萬港幣。后者表示不會收回捐贈款。

綿陽紫荊民族中學于2010年建成，學生都是來自阿壩自治州的少數民族。目前學校已被拆除，讓位給私營開發商投資的大型商業住宅區。

早前媒體報道稱，大連萬達商業地產股份有限公司的這一項目已開始動工。

據人民網報道，綿陽市的意圖是在明年8月落成的教育園區重建該校，并且設施將會更好。
