20th Century Studios' sci-fi thriller "Alien: Romulus" topped the Chinese mainland's daily box office on Monday, according to the China Movie Data Information Network.
The seventh installment of the successful "Alien" franchise, the movie grossed over 57.81 million yuan (about 8.11 million U.S. dollars) on its fourth day of screening.
It tells the story of a group of young space colonists who encounter the universe's most terrifying life form while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station.
Coming in second was domestic crime film "Go for Broke," which raked in about 21.91 million yuan on Monday.
The Japanese animation "Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram" came in third with 17.08 million yuan in revenue on the day.
The total box office revenue on the Chinese mainland on Monday hit 133.59 million yuan.
